RE: 07 tocoma 4.0 Liter versus Ram 1500 5.7 L Hemi

Currently towing a 23QB trail cruiser weight approx 4000 lbs with tacoma 4.0L 6 cyl-Consider Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi. Towing we get 10-11 mpg. Since we are towing quite a distance I was wondering what benefits I gain and the downside if you are aware of any.
With the longer wheelbase and the heavier truck you should have a more stable towing experience with the Dodge. With the larger engine, you will be able to handle the hills a lot better with it as well.
I'd expect you to get more like 8-9 mpg with the Dodge, maybe a little better--that is a pretty light trailer. Not much difference over the Tacoma.
You should be a lot more comfortable while traveling in the Dodge. A lot more room in the cab than the Tacoma.
I'm basing my opinion on that I've yet to see anyone complain here about having a larger tow vehicle to tow their trailer than they previously had. ;)
Correct! Im a former 2006 tacoma owner. I was not that happy with the ride while towing 4200#'s behind the taco. The ride was a little bouney and you KNEW something was behind you. I now have the 08 tundra 5.7l and have never lookled back. The difference is huge if you plan on towing Allot. If your going to make a long trip allot with a heavy load get the larger truck. If your doing this one a year keep the tacoma. Its a great truck with great power (236hp)
I'm a die hard HEMI fan and I can tell you that you will really appreciate that engine on a long trek. Even more so with a few mountains along the way. A newer one with the MDS will probably give you unloaded towing mileage as good as the Taco.
Now if you go for the 2009, you will be the envy of every gasser on the road.
hehe except the new 5.7 tundra owners :-) though the new found power in the hemi must be nice!

RE: Dometic AC Question

pull the cover off the inside of the camper. Maybe they left something in there like cardboard or foam.

RE: Forest River Products

I have a 2000 23' forest river. I also think this thing was made in an awfully hurry. I have found a******load of screws and such that were not even in wood or metal. They were just in foam.
The roof has leaked 2x now. The front window design is also poor.
I will not buy another one of ther products. I know im the 3rd owner of this camper. But it was in great shape other than the leak that I did not notice untill we got it home :(

RE: small cracking in trailer tire. are they still safe?

Sigh* the page I just typed locked up.
I just the tires replaced early this morning at a local goodyear. I went with there goodyear marithon 175/80/13's they wanted 110$ mounted with new stems per tire. I talked them down to 100$ even. The DOT on the other tires were from 1999. These new ones are from early 2008. Good deal!
Thanks to all who preached to me. I now hope to have a mishap free trip. ;)

RE: What am I doing wrong with my Yamaha 2400?

Before you do major work on it get a can of Sea Foam and put some in the gas tank. I use more than they recommend for a stuborn carb issue like you sound like you are having. The stuff actually works.
Jim
2X on the sea foam. This is great stuff.

RE: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.

walkers2rad I had a bad time buying a cheap gen off Ebay. If they fail your $hit out of luck in most cases. The sellers dissapear and the name changes on the generator. I hope you dont get screwed like I did.

RE: small cracking in trailer tire. are they still safe?

Why not just swap it for the spare and no worries.
I guess I should have done this today when I repacked the wheel bearing with grease :S the thought crossed my mind. I will inspect the spare tomorrow.
Thanks for the responses everyone. The tires are less than 4 years old according to the previous owner. The other 3 tires are perfect.

generator oil synthetic ?

I just did a quick search and did not see anything thats related to a generator.
I now own a Yamaha EF2400IS generator. Its pretty new with maybe 10 hours on it. I just gave it its first oil change. I Used what the manual called for 10w-30. I used royal purple synthetic oil. I figured it can hurt to spend the 7.99$ for one quart. One quart will be good for 2 oil changes.
Has anyone else here used synthetic oil in there generators?
